Soviet foreign minister, 1985-1991; president of Georgia, 1995-2003.

    Scope and Content of Collection

This collection includes preparational typescripts and official transcripts of the weekly radio interviews of Ėduard Shevardnadze, President of Georgia, from 16 September 2002 through 17 November 2003. In these interviews Shevardnadze talked about the foreign policy of Georgia, especially relations with the United States and Russia; his trips to foreign countries and various districts of Georgia; visits of foreign statesmen and public figures to Georgia; and political, cultural, and social events that took place during the week under discussion.
The typescript and transcript of each interview relate to the same subjects, though typescripts were prepared in advance and were longer than transcripts. There are also a few reference documents, each listed with the corresponding interview as a separate item.
The entire collection is available on computer workstations in the Hoover Archives reading room. A finding aid with brief descriptions (in Russian) of each interview is also on the workstations. The finding aid is arranged in reverse chronological order, from the last interview in 2003 to the first interview in 2002.
The digitized documents were received by the Hoover Institution on 16 CDs in 2011. The original paper materials are in the possession of Ėduard Shevardnadze.
